UK filmmakers design Gromit sculpture for the Willow Brook Centre as part of Gromit Unleashed 2

British filmmakers, STUDIOCANAL, have been commissioned to design the Gromit sculpture that will be spending its summer at the Willow Brook Centre as part of Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Appeal’s new arts trail.

The design is based upon the company’s latest movie, Swallows and Amazons, featuring Hollywood stars who’ve appeared in films such as Spectre and Harry Potter.

From July 2 until September 2, 67 uniquely designed characters Wallace, Gromit and Feathers McGraw characters will hit the streets of Bristol and the surrounding area to raise money for the Bristol Children’s Hospital charity, The Grand Appeal.

Willow Brook Centre manager, Andy Wynn, said he’s delighted to have such a prestigious design for the Bradley Stoke Gromit sculpture.

“We’ve already seen a sneak peak of the design and we’re blown away by how great it looks. It’s a privilege to be hosting a Gromit sculpture and I’m confident that anyone who visits us here at the Willow Brook Centre will just love the artwork on our very own sculpture.”

The Swallows and Amazons story is an enchanting tale of the Walker children whose holiday to the Lake District sees them sail out on their own to a local island, where they find themselves in competition with a group of local children.

The film has a fantastic British cast, including Kelly Macdonald, who appeared in Brave and Harry Potter, Andrew Scott, who starred in Spectre and Alice Through the Looking Glass, and Rafe Spall, from The BFG and The Big Short.

The team at STUDIOCANAL were more than happy to support The Grand Appeal by creating the artwork for the Willow Brook Centre Gromit.

“We should be taking delivery of our Gromit sculpture in the next few days and we’ve found the perfect location here at the Willow Brook Centre to display him so fans of The Grand Appeal trail can appreciate him in all in his glory,” said Andy.

The Grand Appeal is an award-winning charity, raising money to save lives and support sick children and support their families at Bristol Children’s Hospital. Money raised helps patients and their families in the hospital to have access to the  world-class medical care, pioneering equipment, expert doctors and nurses, family accommodation and patient activities.

The Willow Brook Centre will be updating and sharing information on The Grand Appeal and the latest Gromit Unleashed updates on its social media: Facebook @WillowBrookCentre, Twitter @WillowBrookCtr, Instagram @willowbrookcentre
